An environmental and science journalist focused on public health, climate change, and emerging technologies in Africa, with particular interest in the intersections of science, climate, and environmental issues.

Award Winning Journalist

Sharon Muzaki is an accomplished, award-winning environmental and science journalist focused on public health, climate change, and emerging technologies in Africa, with a strong interest in the intersections of science, climate, and environmental issues. She is passionate about storytelling that brings clarity to complex scientific and environmental challenges and highlights their real-world implications for communities across the continent.

She holds a degree in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University (2019) and has since pursued extensive professional training in storytelling, data journalism, mobile reporting, agroecology, climate journalism, and multimedia reporting, strengthening her ability to report rigorously and creatively across platforms.
Sharon is the inaugural Africa and Middle East fellow of the Advancing Science Journalism in Africa and the Middle East Fellowship, established in honour of Mohammed Yahia and supported by Springer Nature under the Knight Science Journalism (KSJ) Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (2025). 
 
As an MIT Knight Science Journalism Research Fellow, she completed an intensive programme of seminars, workshops, and fieldwork across Cambridge and Boston, and audited classes at both MIT and Harvard University, engaging with leading scientists and experienced science writers. This experience deepened her commitment to elevating science journalism and translating complex research into accessible, impactful stories

Muzaki is the Founder of the Great Lakes Centre for Climate and Tech, a Ugandan non-governmental organisation working at the intersection of climate, public health, science, data, and emerging technologies. Through the Centre, she advances science communication by building the capacity of journalists and civil society actors, engaging youth and the public through digital media and interactive dialogues, and localising emerging climate and health technologies for regional contexts.
